Message from Executive Director

Reba BoldenMessage from Executive Director

Welcome to Community Action Agency. We hope after reading our stories, understanding what it is that we do that you will be encouraged to support us by volunteering, sharing resources, sharing our message with those in need and advocating on the behalf of children, families and the agency.

Are we builders and do we work with care? The answer is yes. The Staff and the Board of Directors work diligently to assist the low income community in improving their lot in life. Due to the down turn in the economy Community Action agencies have had to service more individuals and families with less funding due to budget cuts. Yet, in spite of these difficulties, everyone who asked for services received it. We were able to accomplish the goals of the programs and services and meet the needs of more people because of our Board of Directors, our partners, and our staff; a group of dedicated people who work tirelessly at helping families to become self-sufficient.

Our ability to shine in-spite of the funding woes is also due to the support we receive from the localities and the community. The City of Williamsburg and James City County came through in spite of their budget difficulties, and individuals in the community joined forces with us to insure children and families would have the food and necessities needed during the holidays. I cannot begin to thank everyone enough. Together we are continuing to build communities; one family, one child, and one house at a time. We do it through running effective and efficient programs. We include input from those whom the programs will serve. Our hours of operation state we’re open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., yet we keep our doors open as long as we are needed, including weekends.

It matters to us what kind of job we do. We believe the people we serve deserve the very best we have to offer. These families have trusted us with their children (Head Start), their teens (Project Discovery), their homes (Weatherization), their pain (Legal Outreach Program), and so much more. Community Action Agencies are the safety net for communities. Yes the Community Action Agency way works!! Community Action Agency changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other. No agency knows how to turn lemons into lemonade like Community Action.
